Museum Exhibit Design Ontario Science Centre SDA were the chief design consultants for the Circus exhibit, being totally responsible for the design of the Hi-Wire, Elastic Acrobatics and Big Top exhibits. Part of this, naturally, required us to test the exhibits before the public was allowed to use them. The pictures below show our President, Richard Sawyer, hard at work testing the Hi-Wire and Elastic Acrobatics. It's a demanding job, and he's the one to do it! The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery In June/July 2004, The Power Plant will be staging an exhibit by the renowned Dutch artist, John Körmeling. John is an entertainer as much as he is an artist and his crazy works are enormous fun. The centrepiece of the exhibition will be the Drive-In Wheel. This is a 100ft (30m) diameter Ferris Wheel designed to carry cars. This will be installed in front of The Power Plant and the public will be able to ride in it, just like any other amusement ride. Naturally such an unusual ride has been subjected to close scrutiny by the authorities in Ontario, and in order to get all the necessary data for the approval, Richard Sawyer travelled to Holland in January 2004 to ride it. He reports that it is a very smooth and pleasant ride, and much more comfortable than most normal Ferris Wheels. The pictures show the ride on display in Utrecht, and a couple of views taken by Richard from one of the cars on a murky January day in northern Holland. G-Force SDA have been commissioned to design and build a replacement for the hugely popular G-Force exhibit at the Ontario Science Centre. The new ride will be the same concept and overall size as the original, but with substantial improvements in the appearance of the exhibit. It will also be fully compliant with the latest amusement ride codes and standards, which have been significantly changed since the original was designed. Pictured below is a rendering of the design concept.
